About
DK Fliegel is a 23 year old photographer from New York. She is currently residing in New Haven, CT after graduating from Wake Forest University in 2022. Her passion for the visual arts began at a young age, beginning with drawing and painting, then ultimately expanding to ceramic sculpture and photography. Her work emphasizes color and light in order to bring attention to ephemeral moments: the sun creating the perfect reflection, or a moment of quiet reflection. She is fascinated with abandoned spaces, for each has its own story; they are windows into the past and how those before us lived. The cycle of decay allows us to see what occurs when we step away from a place and devote resources to other causes. It is important to document these places before they disappear from collective knowledge. This combination of history and architecture drove her passion for finding and exploring new places, culminating in a body of work taken between 2018-2020. As for her city collection, she aims to illustrate different perspectives and the sense of awe one feels when amidst magnificent feats of modern engineering. The goal was to take typical views of Manhattan and distort them - looking down rather than up and stasis upon a bridge. She picked up a film camera in late 2019 and fell in love with the increased technical skill and effort required.
